Our Mares

Djali

Djali (pronounced Dahl-ya) is a red sabino with great hair and stands about 16.2hh. known as "Jolly". Djali gets her name from the Hunchback of Notre Dame; Djali is Esméralda's pet goat. Djali comes from the same Canadian breeder as our Black Clydesdale mare, Merry Widow. I was not looking for another mare at this time but when Djali was offered to me I couldn't say no. I almost bought her instead of our Merry years ago. She does not have the head we look for in our mares but we overlooked that because she shines in every other way. This will be the mother of some Drum foals with dressage potential. You should see this mare move!

Merry Widow

Merry is a registered Black Clydesdale and stands about 17hh. She is the gentle lamb of the herd and is another people lover. She is not the first to meet you at the gate but she is the one that will walk you to your car and watch you drive away before she returns to the herd. Merry is the barn favorite and tends to steal hearts wherever she goes. She is open this year and at the trainers.

Perdita

Keyhole King's Perdita is a wonderful blue sabino Clydesdale. Her history was as a brood mare with very little handling or training, but she is coming around nicely. She loves to have her ears scratched and the other horses have taught her about treats. Her favorite goodies are carrots and pineapple.

Rainy

Rainy has a long story of her own. She is full Shire but never registered because she was sold at auction with her mother, and there was some debate as to her father. At auction someone bought her mother but would not take Rainy, she was parted from her mother at 2 months old. A California Shire breeder bought her and raised her. From there she made her way to Knights of the Azure Cross, a jousting group near Fresno, CA. She learned to joust, but a bad fall brought her early retirement.
